Another Twenty LUCKY winners of the 4th monthly draw in conjunction with the 18th Anniversary of Milimewah Group received their prizes at the Milimewah Bandar Branch Sunday.

The 20 names were selected by fellow shoppers on the second draw held on Sunday the 18th January 2009 at the same venue.

The winners won various prizes such as LCD televisions, home speakers, DVD players and other electrical products. The first prize winner was won by CINDY CHUNG CIA YUNG who won an Aifa 42" LCD TV, while the second and third winner were MD. AZRUL AZMI HJ SAFAR winning an LG 26" LCD and PG. HJ MD. Bandar Seri Begawan – Jaya Hypermart Centrepoint recently held a prize presentation ceremony for the winners of Guess and Win competition.

Participants were asked to guess the number of packets of noodles inside the giant mee pack. The champion for the competition was Ramli Mohamad who received $1,000 shopping voucher as well as 10 cartons of Indofood Mee Goreng.

Meanwhile, the second and third places went to Omar Hj Sirat and Chan Wing Hoe who received $500 shopping voucher and and $300 shopping voucher respectively as well as 10 cartons of Infofood Mee Goreng each.

Bandar Seri Begawan – Three days of heavy downpour in the country has brought misery to many people in three districts through flash floods and landslides. The worst hit is the Tutong District but Brunei-Muara and Belait are also not spared. The National Disaster Management Centre has been activated in the capital and so is the operation room in the Tutong District.

A spokesman said 60 calls were received from the public on floods and landslides. The Belait operation room has been put on alert as officials are assessing the situation. The Temburong District has not reported any weather related problems, the spokesman added.

People in affected areas need not worry as the situation is under control, NDMC said and added that problems have been identified in only a few areas. So far no evacuation orders have been issued.

The Fire and Rescue Department personnel have been kept busy since the last three days. In the capital, a landslide was reported in Kg Berangan. Advertisement

Though no one was hurt, it damaged two cars. Landslides were also reported in Kg Bengkurong and Kg Kilanas. The Kg Bengkurong landslide has led to officials closing a section of the road. Some of the affected areas in the capital include Kg Mentiri, Kampong Pasai, Jalan Ban 3, 4 and 5, Kampong Masin, Kampong Selayun, Kampong Batu Ampar, Kampong Wasan and Kampong Tanjung Bunut.

Flash floods have also been reported in areas like Kampong Sinaut, Kampong Layong, Kampong Bukit Udal, Mukim Rambai, Kijampong Batang Mitus and other areas in the Tutong Distrlct causing problems for drivers on the road. Some of the roads are even temporarily closed. Many areas where drainage facilities were overwhelmed by the continuous downpour are facing serious flooding with water levels in some places reaching as high as five feet. The Brunei Meteorological Service Unit said the wet weather is due to the country's current transition into the Northeast Monsoon, which is the wettest period of the year for the country.

The heavy rainfall received as of 8am yesterday morning stood at 144.4mm, which is quite typical for this month during the monsoon period. Statistics show that the average amount of rainfall during October over the last 15 years is over 300mm, with the highest recorded being 432mm.

The main cause of the gloomy weather stems from the presence of a small vortex or an area of active weather development located over the sea areas close to our country, said the Brunei Meteorological Service Unit.

The weather development has been further enhanced by the active Northern Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (NITCZ) passing through the country as seen on the satellite picture, showing extensive cloud cover across the region. The forecast for the next 24 hours shows unsettled weather with rain still expected, though the intensity is expected to vary.

The Meteorological Unit also said that the area of coverage might not be as extensive as yesterday, covering the whole sea and most parts of the land areas. Meanwhile, low-lying areas in New Village Seria have turned into a water village as the villagers' houses have been inundated and many roads and areas have been hit by flood waters.

Homes and businesses have been affected as New Village residents claimed that the rising waters from Badas River, which divides the New and Badas village, have further aggravated the situation. According to a resident, water from the Badas River overflowed its banks since 6am yesterday morning and the swollen river continued to flood most parts of the village in the afternoon as rains continued to lash several parts of the Belait District yesterday. Motorists also found it tough to negotiate their vehicles through flooded stretches of roads in the village.

Another resident said flood waters have not entered his home but the water stands at the same level as his house layout and another heavy rain might see water entering his house. Another resident, whose house has been damaged by the flood water, said this was the worst flooding she has seen in the history of the new village Seria and added that the Badas village used to face far worse flooding in the past. However, after the Badas village drainage system has been improved, the residents there are spared from the flood waters. She added that problems could be caused by the overflowing river and drains which could not cope with the volume of water.

Journey to Louis' Farm situated at Jln Tutong Mukim Sengkurong. It's about 20 mins drive from Bandar to Louis' farm. Fishing is open to the public at certain fee but the farm can only be entered with special permission by the owner Mr. Louis. The farm is good for educational visit where you can learn more about ostrich, emu, deers, crocodiles, etc. You can even purchase some vegetables and livestock such as chicken even ostrich's meat and egg. There are more than 1000 fresh water fish in the man-made pond.

The art and design showcase at the Berakas Sixth Form Centre that started since Saturday the 2nd August ended yesterday.

The exhibition was aimed at showcasing and strengthening the appreciation for art education by the public. At the same time, it was also aimed at promoting both students' and professional artists' artworks, as well as encourage creativity and quality of arts among youths.

Artworks by 66 upper and lower six students and former art and design students were showcased from August 2 to 4.

Also exhibited were numerous works by acclaimed Brunei Darussalam painters both locally and internationally.

Today we went outing at one of the most visited beach in Brunei, Seri Kenangan Beach situated in Tutong..I can't tell you much as it was my 1st time there. The beach, however, is clean as it is well taken care of. It was such amazing sight with the calmly sea and why walk when you can rent ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) and ride along the beach. We did not stay long enough as we had to rush to Hua Ho Mall in Tutong to survey some few things and had to rush back to Bandar. i' sure to visit the beach again and this time we'll go picnicking and perhaps have some barbeque there...

At First, I don't even know anything about him but it was that one day a friend of mine told me to read his book-seller, Rich Dad Poor Dad. I thought it was just a normal book but when i read it...It really changed the way I think (well...it depend on certain people).

From this book, I slowly getting to know him a little. After I finished reading his book, Cashflow Quadrant: Rich Dad's Guide to Financial Freedom (2000) , I bought his another book for teenager *Rich Dad Poor Dad For Teens*.

There is NO such things as " I will be rich tomorrow " or "After reading this book, I will be rich"

If you want to be rich, You must be brave enough to take the risk! This also had been taught in this book:)..Nothing is guaranteed but for as long as you never give up..things might just go in your way.

KAMPONG AYER THE VENICE OF THE EAST

The Water Village (Malay: Kampong Ayer) is an area of Brunei's capital city Bandar Seri Begawan that is situated in the middle of the Brunei River.

About more than 10,000 people live in the Water Village.

All of the Water Village buildings are constructed on stilts above the Brunei River.

Kampong Ayer would have existed as early as the reign of 1st Brunei's sultan, Sultan Muhammad Shah who ruled from 1363 to 1402.

The Water Village is really made up of small villages linked together by more than 29,140 metres of foot-bridges, consisting of over 4200 structures including homes, mosques, restaurants, shops, a school, and clinics.

Private water taxis provide rapid transit. Most of these taxis resemble long wooden speed boats.

The people there actually enjoys modern amenities including air conditioning, satellite television, Internet access, plumbing, and electricity. Some of the residents keep potted plants and chickens.

The district has a unique architectural heritage of wooden homes with ornate interiors.

People have lived in Kampong Ayer for over 1300 years. The district is a culturally important part of Brunei that preserves the nation's river dwelling origins.

Late last year, Ian Moray stumbled across a cotton-candy-pink Web site called Whateverlife.com. As manager of media development at the online marketing company ValueClick Media, he was searching for under-the-radar destinations for notoriously fickle teenagers. Beyond MySpace and Facebook, countless sites come and go in the teen universe, like soon forgotten pop songs. But Whateverlife stood out. It was more authentic somehow. It featured a steady supply of designs for MySpace pages and attracted a few hundred-thousand girls a day. "Clever design, a growing base--that's a no-brainer for us," Moray says.

He approached Ashley Qualls, Whateverlife's founder, about incorporating ads from ValueClick's 450 or so clients and sharing the revenue. At first, she declined. Then a few weeks later she changed her mind. He was in Los Angeles and she was in Detroit, so they arranged everything by phone and email. They still have yet to meet in person.

When did Moray, who's 40, learn that his new business partner was 17 years old? Pause.

"When our director of marketing told me why Fast Company was calling," says Moray, now ValueClick's director of media development. "I assumed she was a seasoned Internet professional. She knows so much about what her site does, more than people three times her age."

THIS is a rarity in digital animation, but hopefully it marks a trend. It’s a great-looking film with an engrossing story that isn’t overweighed by special effects.

Kung Fu Panda has something in common with those old hand-painted features like Dumbo, a mere 64-minute film from 1941. It has strong characters, a clear story line and a moral to live by. The Panda storytellers are scriptwriters Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, both veterans of the acutely observed animated series King of the Hill, while directors Mark Osborne and John Stevenson have animated comedy in their bones through SpongeBob SquarePants and King of the Pride, respectively.

The story line is simple. In the Valley of Peace, the panda Po (voiced by Jack Black), works in the noodle shop of his father, the duck Mr. Ping (James Hong). (The species mismatch is a setup for a one-line joke later in the movie.) But rather than aspire to noodledum, the clumsy Po is Kung Fu-obsessed and dreams of fighting villains — not that he could ever pilot his huge girth quickly enough. One day, he is accidentally rocketed into the ring where the next Master Dragon is being chosen by Master Oogway (Randall Duk Kim), the ancient turtle who oversees the temple on the mountain overlooking the Valley of Peace. Utama Grand Superstore yesterday Sunday the 15th June 2008 organized a "Stabilo Coloring Contest" with about 100 children participated in the contest. The contest was divided into two categories: Category A and Category B. The champion for Category A was Yeo Yeo Chiew winning her a Stabilo hamper worth $200 and a trophy, while 2nd and 3rd went to Hwafahana Bte Zailani and Nur Shazwanna Bte Bahrin respectively. Consolation prizes for this category went to Hadifferas, Akmal Faizzuddin, Noor Mohd Khairullah, Valerie Tan and Tung Wai Khei.

The champion for Category B was Alicia Lim Chia Hue while Yvonne Lee and Charlene Cheng were in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Consolation prizes are Vanessa Lim, Mohd Hadif, Alvin Yong, Alan Lim and Nor Syariena. Champions in both category beside trophy also won $200 worth of hamper by Stabilo while 2nd place received hamper worth $150 and the 3rd prize received hamper worth $100. All consolation winners received hampers from Stabilo.

Blackout For 3 hours

It was my brother "Malam Berbedak" ceremony last night in which that the power went out for about 3 hours. We called the electrical department to complaint and it took them 3 hours to fix it. My dad has to buy boxes of candle to lighten up the event. Our worries getting worst when the guests were about to come. We have no choice but to carry on the event even without the power. With lots of helping hand, the event went on succesfully till the power restored back to normal again.

Unbelievable is the word that came out from Lera Sarsosa Bugtong when she won the 1st prize in the win and spin Anniversary Draw in which she won a Mazda 5. Milimewah Group held a prize presentation ceremony for its 8th 'Spin & Win' last monthly draw at the Jaya Hypermart yesterday. Twenty qualifiers were chosen last week in a public spin.

The winners were Donna Khairun Nisa Md Noor (1st prize); Md Yusuff Hj Mohiddin (2nd prize) and Chong Siew Chin (3rd prize).
